Patay

2024

I participated in the ‘True Colors’ group exhibition at the Leon Gallery in South Korea, alongside other creatives.

I have a calm demeanor, especially during high pressure situations, so most people assume I have a chill personality. But the truth is, I get just as stressed as everyone else, and sometimes I even feel like I’m dying on the inside. I just know how to hide it. For my illustration, I was inspired by the Korean saying about walking along a flowery path – meaning one has no thorns or rough patches in their life journey. I named this piece ‘Patay’, which is the Tagalog word for death, to honor my true colors. The illustration depicts a curved and broken spine, a representation of how stressful situations make me feel, embellished with flowers to reference the Korean saying. Not everything is as it appears on the surface.
